Yes, we’re heading into a New Year, and maybe you have some amazing, industrious plans — new beginnings.
And maybe… you don’t.
Maybe what you need most right now is simply to settle into the space you’re already in.
The New Year doesn’t always have to be about moving forward.
Sometimes it’s about pausing — getting comfortable with what is.
And true, while that can shift in an instant, we can still choose to soften, to breathe, to stop striving for just a little while.
I’ve never been big on resolutions, but I’ll admit: the settling-in part doesn’t come naturally to me. I tend to reach, to strive, to do.
Partly because I love what I do — it fills me with purpose — and partly because I feel the urgency to share what I’ve learned, to help more people get the care and understanding they deserve.
As I’m writing this, I realize maybe I do have a wish (actually, two).
And yes, I prefer “wish” to “goal” — it feels softer, more spacious, and that’s the tone or feeling I’d like to carry into the year ahead.
My first wish is to reach and help more people find their way out of our “sickcare” model of healthcare — to move toward true health care, where they feel empowered to advocate for themselves and ask for what they need.
My second wish is to do this in a way that also allows me to slow down, savor my family, and welcome the joy of another grandbaby into the world.
So maybe I’m being a little greedy — I want my cake and eat it too.
But as I get older, I’m learning that’s okay. Greedy for joy, connection, meaning, and time? I’ll take it.
So where do you fall on this continuum?
Wherever you are, I hope this year brings you softness, steadiness, peace, joy, and a sense of belonging.
Happy New Year to all of you — you make my life fuller, richer, and more meaningful than you know.
I wouldn’t be here without you, and I thank you for that.
