Keeping blood sugar within a certain range is important for everyone!
And as we start to lose our hormones (both men and women), keeping blood sugar in check becomes more challenging. One big reason is we lose muscle as we lose estrogen and testosterone. And muscle is an important metabolic organ and regulator.
But why do we care? Why is blood sugar such an important factor to our overall health? Because when it’s high, it increases inflammation which is the driver of ALL disease.
When our glucose run highs, our insulin hangs out high as well and insulin is a fat storing hormone. It’s the hormone that lays down the visceral fat in between our organs=more inflammation!
When our glucose runs high, it overloads our liver AND will actually raise cholesterol levels MORE than eating a high protein and fat diet in a large percentage of the population. Please read that again!
Metabolic instability (aka-poor blood sugar control) is the driver of heart attacks NOT elevated cholesterol.
So, with all that being said, see how many of these tips you can incorporate! It makes a difference.
PS: PLEASE ask your doctor to test your fasting insulin! It’s way more important that your fasting glucose or A1c levels. If they won’t do it, which many won’t, please reach out to me and we’ll get it done!
Healthy fasting insulin levels are between 2.5 and 6.0, NOT the <18 that’s listed on the lab report.
I also wanted to let you know that there’s a new over- the-counter Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) put out by Abbott Labs that I’m recommending to ALL my clients. This 2 week sensor is called Lingo and it’s only $45 with the discount code. ABNTP-Hnv03
A CGM is a great way for you to see, first hand, what YOUR body does with food, exercise, stress and sleep or lack of. I find that most of my clients are surprised with their findings end up making positive changes.
