The gut isn’t leaky because of food sensitivities. You have food sensitivities because the gut is leaky.
Think about that for a minute. It’s NOT the food.
Food sensitivity testing is one of my least favorite tests. Surprised? Well here’s why.
If the results comes back with a lot of sensitivities, it’s just pointing a finger to gut issues.
I haven’t been talking much about the gut lately but there is a high percentage of people who have digestive problems and I know, from first hand experience, that it can be absolutely miserable.
I think most of you here have heard that the seat of our health is our gut and that’s true!
Our gut can cause a lot of inflammation and havoc in other parts of our bodies, including our skin, brain, thyroid, energy, autoimmunity, nutrient status, hormones and the list goes on.
Food sensitivities can become the focus of ‘fixing’ the gut. But again, this is one of the last tests I offer my clients for 3 basic reasons.
1. If there is a leaky gut, your test will come back with sensitivities to many different foods.
2. These tests will often cause significant food avoidance and fear and ultimately nutrient deficiencies. Taking foods out, does not heal the gut. It just calms down the inflammatory response for a bit.
3. I’d rather have my clients spend their money on the supplements that I know will heal their gut and/or on a comprehensive stool test.
Now, if we’re still having significant issues after a gut healing protocol, which yes, does included removing dairy and gluten for a period of time, then I might recommend a food sensitivity test. (I think I’ve ordered maybe 3 in the past ten years).
If you’re finding that you seem to be sensitive to many foods, suffer from IBS, have acid reflux or GERD, have bloating and/or pain, or you’re in menopause. There’s a good chance you have a gut that needs repair.
And your gastroenterologist doesn’t have the tools to repair. They have big guns that squelch symptoms and may get rid of a bug or two but not HEAL and REPAIR.
So that’s where I come in. That’s where my tagline, ‘Beyond What The Doctor Ordered’ comes in. I pick up where doctors leave off.
If you’re grappling with digestive issues, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help you!
