Keto, Paleo, Vegan…which one is for you?

Trendy eating plans like Keto, Paleo, and vegan may be popular, and may work really well for some people, but they don’t work for everyone and often will start to back fire within a 3-6 month period.

These eating plans can be tricky as they are restrictive, can be difficult to follow, and easily misunderstood. And there’s a never a one-size-fits all diet.

So let’s take the Keto diet. Men seem to do better than women on Keto once the initial three month kick-start period has passed and they do so for a reason. Women have more estrogen and naturally more padding (aka curves) which means a need for adequate amounts of carbohydrates to keep hormones in balance.

Keto in particular (although Paleo and vegan too) can cause unpleasant consequences like fatigue, brain fog, and hormonal imbalance in women.

In fact, a recent study shows that the estrogen glitch makes keto backfire for 75% of women over 45 which is the time when our estrogen levels start to taper off.

What’s more, Keto can worsen certain symptoms of menopause, including, fatigue, hair loss, sleep problems, and mood changes.

So if you are finding yourself feeling any of these you might want to consider incorporating a starchy vegetable or an ancient grain daily or a minimum of 4 times a week.

Your eating plan needs to be based on your current health status, age, gender, and even genetics.
