Is Your Waist Expanding?

Is your middle expanding? Have your arms and backside become a bit more padded and insulated?

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a piece on bile, its role in preventing acid reflux, SIBO, IBS and improving estrogen metabolism, dominance, and possibly estrogen driven cancers. If you haven’t read it yet here’s the link.

In this post I’d like to talk about bile’s role in weight loss and how it’s an underlying cause of that extra padding we start seeing around age 45-50.

I do love bile and try to make sure my clients are making adequate amounts of this Secret Sauce and it’s moving smoothly to get where it’s needed.

Bile is a digestive liquid that’s made in your liver, stored in your gallbladder and breaks down dietary fat in the body.

That’s important because bile allows your body to use the fats you eat as energy, instead of storing them as extra calories in the form of fat.

Here’s another reason to appreciate bile:

It’s essential for healthy thyroid function and metabolism. When bile breaks down dietary fat, your body releases a specific enzyme that converts the inactive thyroid hormone T4 into the active hormone T3.

This is important because T3 is required for good metabolism-think good energy, moods and weight.

In fact, Harvard Medical School researchers discovered that people who improve their bile health increase their metabolism by a whopping 53 percent! Which translates into extra pounds melting away.

Without enough bile your thyroid function — and metabolism — grinds to a halt, triggering unexpected weight gain, fatigue, thinning hair, and mood swings.

Some experts estimate 80% of women over 40 have thick, congested bile — and that’s causing them to pack on extra pounds.

So how do you know if your bile needs a boost?

If you have two or more of the symptoms below, poor-quality bile may be affecting your metabolism and your ability to lose weight:

  • Bloating, gas, or digestive discomfort (especially after a fatty meal)
  • Pain between the shoulder blades or under the rib cage
  • Grey-or light-colored stool
  • Dizziness
  • Radiating leg pain
  • Insomnia or middle-of-the-night sleep disturbances
  • Flakey scalp
  • Dry skin
  • Cracked heals

These common symptoms could be a red flag your sluggish bile needs support.

My favorite supplement to support the production of bile as well as increasing bile flow is made by Xymogen, called LipotropX. I take 2 caps twice daily and have noticed a big difference in my skin and bowel movements (TMI?-sorry but poops are a favorite evaluation tool of overall health status). Both of these improvements I attribute to my T3 levels improving.

To order your LipotropiX, follow this link to set up an account and order.

There are other good products out there that will support bile production but I think the ingredients included in this supplement create a superior synergistic effect that makes a significant difference in how we look and feel.

That’s it for now!
