Turmeric Lemonade Tea

sweet-tea-22

Prep & cook time 5-20 minutes:

4 cups water

1 teaspoon turmeric powder (or a 3-inch strip fresh turmeric root, peeled)

1 teaspoon ginger powder (or a 4-inch strip fresh ginger root, peeled)

1 tsp. honey or 20-30 drops of liquid stevia, to taste

1-2 lemons juiced (like to plop the squeezed lemon into the tea for the benefit of the bitters from the peel)

The cook time varies depending on if you use the fresh or powdered turmeric and ginger. I think the taste and benefits of using fresh so out weigh the extra time it takes.

I make a double batch of the water, fresh turmeric, and ginger) to keep in the refrigerator as this is where most of the prep time is spent.

Put water into a small pot and bring to a boil on the stove. Make sure that the water has come to a full boil. Add turmeric and ginger to the boiling water and reduce to simmer for 8 to 10 minutes. This will extract the beneficial compounds from the turmeric and ginger. Remove the pot from the stove. Strain the tea into a cup through a fine-mesh strainer to filter out the particles of turmeric and ginger. Add sweetener and lemon and to taste.

Drinking this tea daily helps with cleansing while soothing and warming at the same time. Enjoy!

Turmeric is great for reducing inflammation and helping the liver to turn on its own great detoxifier, glutathione.

Ginger is known for its anti-nausea properties, and reduces inflammation in the GI tract.

Lemon is wonderful to help the body cleanse, also helps with nausea and digestion from the bitter component of the rind.
